Dr. Roberta Sengelmann, MD, FAAD, FACMS

The American College of Mohs Surgery is the only governing body for training in the field of skin cancer surgery, Mohs surgery, and reconstruction. While many dermatologists perform Mohs surgery, Dr. Sengelmann is Santa Barbara's only fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon who has attained the distinction of being accredited through the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS).

More than 2 million Americans develop skin cancer annually. The vast majority of the time, these cancers are not painful and tend to be difficult to detect by the untrained eye. Early detection and treatment are required for the highest cure rates for all skin cancers, including Melanoma (the most lethal type), Basal Cell Carcinoma (the most common type), and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Surgical removal via Mohs surgery has been proven to provide the highest cure rates (over 97%) for non-melanoma skin cancers. In addition, Mohs surgery is a tissue-sparing technique that creates the smallest possible wound and hence an opportunity for the least visible scarring. Fellowship trained Mohs surgeons are experts in skin cancer management, Mohs surgery, and reconstruction of wounds.
